Our league began in the fall of 2001 on a whim among a few friends who were all members of an 80's The following year, as interest in the league grew, it was moved to yahoo.com . The league grew to 11 teams, becoming a redraft head-to-head league. Also a playoff system was inaugurated, culminating in the first Xchange Bowl. The Toilet Bowl tournament was created for teams missing the playoffs. In 2003, the XFFL expanded again to 14 franchises, it's largest number of teams ever. The following year, the league contracted to a permanent size of 12 teams, divided into three divisions. Also in 2004, the XFFL transferred it's operation to myfantasyleague.com, becoming a subscription keeper league. This basic format remains in place today.
In 2006 , the name of the league was changed to the World Fantasy Football League, as it's official connection to the 80sXchange.com site was left behind. However, the WFFL remains steeped in a tradition of 80's nostaglia, as seen in the names of the league's three divisions (Awesome, Gnarly, and Radical). The WFFL currently consists of 12 owners spanning 5 time zones, representing 3 countries (Canada, Ireland and the USA) on two continents. Truly, this is a World Fantasy Football League. ![]() | |
