| League History The EFFL was founded in 1998 as an 8-team league. Of the 8 teams, 4 of those original team owners remain in the league. Statistics were taken from the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper by hand. Free Agent signings were free, but teams were limited to three free agents per season. This was to help promote trading amongst teams. The league entry fee was $25. The league champion got $150 while the runner-up got $50. Players were granted 5 bonus yardage points only when they eclipsed the 100 yard mark for WR, TE and RB and 300 yards passing for QB. The first draft was held in the Commish's basement. There were 6 attendees and 2 team owners who phoned in picks every round. There were 2 divisions of 4 teams in 1998. The Aniston Conference and the Berry Conference. Named after Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry. The first player ever selected was Terrell Davis, taken by the City Slickers. They then proceeded to trade Davis for Drew Bledsoe after Davis failed to score as expected in the first 5 weeks of the season. Randy Moss was drafted in the 8th round by T-N-T. Fred Taylor went undrafted, but was later picked up by Unsportsmanlike Conduct as a free agent when James Stewart was injured. There were 128 total players selected in the 1998 draft. In comparison the 2001 season saw 384 total players drafted. The first champion crowned was The Xtra Point. The team then proceeded to fold after their championship season. The EFFL held a "Toilet Bowl" in the 1998 season that pitted the worst 4 teams against each other while the "Extreme Bowl" was played. The Toilet Bowl champion was "Necessary Roughness". |
