Topic Covite Fantasy Football League Message Board / Pro Bowl? (73 hits)

Team Supafly Date Sun Dec 30 8:20:49 p.m. ET 2007
Hey Guys.  Just wanted to throw something out as an option.  I was talking to one of my uncles about fantasy football.  He said that in their league the super bowl is in week 16.  Then with the final week of the season they have a pro bowl.  Now they play for money, but it sounded like a fun little idea for bragging rites.  Now i guess it would have to be a three way pro bowl.  Each division could field a team.   Each team in the division contributes two players to the team.  The division champ would have final say in the decision of the roster.

Believe me I'm not trying to tell you guys how to run the league.  Everyone that is involved puts in a lot of hard work and the league is run very smoothly.  Sometimes I think it is a little unfair with the Covite Bowl being played the last week.  Some teams are at an unfair advantage/disadvantage with players being rested for the playoffs.  I thought I would just throw this out for discussion.

Any Thoughts?

I'm up for it.  Sometimes I think that the 17 week schedule tests a teams depth, which is something to be rewarded for as well.  Not just one or two players that win a week for a team.  I guess I'm saying I could go either way.

I like the idea of the pro bowl.  We have had fun jabs at each other all year long on who had the best division.  I think this would be a nice end of the season and the season then could end week 16.

I think it would be a cool idea, but there are some other ramifications.  We would be "losing" a week from the season.  What else that needs to be considered to accommodate this would be:

- do we shorten playoffs to 2 rounds (only 4 teams)?
- do we change to 2 divisions w/ 6 teams so we have only 2 teams?
- do we consider eliminating the "consolation" games and toilet bowl?
- do we even consider expanding rosters, yet keep only 14 rounds of draft?  There could be additional keepers OR open spots for future waivers/trades.

The other unknown, we we have all 12 teams back next year?

In days of old (pre 1978) there would be 14 weeks TOTAL (14 games and NO bye week).  The late 80s introduced the bye week in the NFL.

Woooo, settle down there Wildcats.  We have done enough changes this year and this ProBowl shorten by one week would just be a small change.  Let's not turn this whole thing upside down.  We will need a meeting before the draft on just the changes that have occured up to this point.  Baby steps, Baby steps.

Yeah I'm not trying to turn the league upside down.  As I said the league really is run and setup very well.  This was something I had never heard of before in Fantasy Football and it sounded fun.  I just thought the Pro Bowl was a neat idea and another reason for some people to talk trash, so I mentioned the idea.

Well here is an idea what if we could keep it the same way and add in the pro bowl as well.  Basically have everyone from each division submit a roster whether they are in a game on not.  And the Division Winners (head coaches) decides out of those submitted rosters who is actually playing?  2 from each team.... just a thought to add this in because i think it is a really cool idea but i am not sure how to accomodate for it in the schedule that we have.

Makes sense to me Tyler.  It would be the least disruptive to the current league setup.  All current records and future records would be intact and current.  It would keep all parties interested until the last week.

That is the closet way i could think to have our cake and eat it too, Now the big thing is to keep everyones attention.  But i think we should try this out to see how it goes.
Juniata Wildcats Date Mon Dec 31 11:42:42 a.m. ET 2007
ok, which week would the Pro Bowl occur...week 17 or weeks 18/19/20 (playoffs in NFL)?    Personally, I think if the division winner is busy w/ a fantasy playoff roster, the head coach should be a division runner up (just like NFL Pro Bowl).  Would this be a 3 way game?
Commissioner Date Mon Dec 31 11:50:26 a.m. ET 2007
Yeah it would be a 3-way game, and it doesnt really matter to me who would make the final say in the roster but it would be the 17th week.  The same time as the Championship and consolation games and etc.  Just would be one on the side and i would manually do the scoring for bragging rights and etc.

There are a lot of players probably out that last week.. which makes it hard to win the superbowl without depth and also having players that are still playing for that wildcard playoff pos.

What about Running a pro bowl using either the real probowl stats or even a running total through the playoffs...
The running total would be something like march maddness in the sense that if you turn in a roster before the end of week one you will have to hope your players move on to the super bowl.

Not sure what you guys thing.. Im just throwing that out there...
