(MyFantasyLeague.com Fantasy Times Sources - Dec 24, 2007) In a week 16 Ed Hughes Football League classic, Baja Bombers squeaked by a tough Joliet Giants team by a score of 86 to 81, extending the winning streak for Baja Bombers to 3 games.
Baja Bombers were led to their 5 point victory by a 26 point effort from Ben Roethlisberger, who got by the St. Louis Rams defense for 261 passing yards and 3 passing TDs in addition to 11 rushing yards. With this performance, Roethlisberger was the number 5 ranked quarterback for week 16. They also got help from a 16 point effort from Ryan Grant, who got by the Chicago Bears defense for 100 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD in addition to 9 receiving yards.
"We feed off the energy of our fans," Baja Bombers coach Bobby Brownstein said.
Joliet Giants were helped out in a losing cause by a 22 point effort from Marc Bulger, who got by the Pittsburgh Steelers defense for 208 passing yards and 3 passing TDs. They also got help from a 20 point effort from Reggie Wayne, who beat the Houston Texans defense for 143 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD.
"They out-hustled us," Joliet Giants coach Rick McCallum said.
Adding salt to the wound, Joliet Giants could have scored 108 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Rick McCallum left key players like Dallas Clark and his corresponding 19 points on the bench.
Joliet Giants drew the short straw with their schedule this week, as their point total would have resulted in a win against 10 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 16. This brings the record for Baja Bombers to 8-5, and drops Joliet Giants to a record of 9-4.
