I'm back folks...Welcome to 2007...I've got about 100 emails to send to close up my 5 leagues this year, so let's get right to it...
Congratulations are in order to Dave Kreklau and Bull 1983 for winning the Seinfeld League title in a game that wasn't all that close (117-79) over Jeff Carey and Serenity Now. 5 players in double-digits for Bull led by Willie Parker were more than enough to beat Serenity Now. Bull's team was so loaded he had more than 50 points on his bench this week. Congrats Bull you won title's #7 and #8 this year.
Great job by a number of teams this year...Jeff Carey for getting to the title game, Troy Rex and Scott Koehler for dominating the league for most of the year. Tracy Haygen for really coming on late in the year and having a great year and Steve Preo for getting into the playoffs...Nice job guys...
Tracy Haygen wins the final three weeks $100 prize, as he was actually the high scorer in the league each of the last two weeks, if only he had a better week in his 1st round playoff game, he would have won the title...Quite an accomplishment.
I had a nice week off of work and some R&R to get me going for 2007...Dirtbag...if you can send me a digital photo head shot and I'll post it on the SmartGuySports.com Hall of Champions, or do you want me to just go with a stock photo (LMAO)...Each of the teams that have money owed to them I will be sending out an email and will set that up for you today...
New Year's Day is my favorite Day of the entire year...It's the day that I get up late...watch some college football...get bored, and start doing my final fantasy football roundups and cleanups for the year. The boredom hit me about noon today...So here's some final Seinfeld Business for the year...
The 2007 Draft Order was drawn using our random dice generator...here is the 2007 draft order:
#1: Socko's Revenge
#2: Serenity Now
#3: Cap's Avengers
#4: Bull 1983
#5: Tekies
#6: Spongeworthy
#7: Shortcake Delight
#8: Chili Crashers
#9: The Highlight Reel
#10: Dave's Waves
#11: Turkey Timers
#12: Buck Naked
This will give everyone a ton of stuff to think about in 2007...where and who can I pick in next year's draft. I hope that everyone enjoyed the year and I hope that everyone is coming back next year...I've got a couple of announcements to make on 2007. One...I have enlisted Dirtbag and my brother Brad into helping do recaps and stuff for their former leagues that I took on, which should free myself up for more of that in 2007. I know you guys all like that stuff and I'm going to try and accomodate as much as possible...
Secondly...I have decided that there are some rules changes that I would really like to incorporate into 2007 and beyond...I'm not a big fan of going crazy with rules changes, but there are a couple of items that I think definately need to be fixed in 2007. I'm going to spell them out here and if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or have some ideas of their own, then let's hear them...I'd like to get these decided on and posted soon. Thanks...
#1: Waivers...I really want to go to a blind bidding system that uses fake $100 to bid on free agents instead of using the worst-to-first method of picking up free agents. This really is the fairest and most equal system out there...but to make this work we need to move waivers from running on Wednesday night to running on Friday nights. This gives owners a longer week to decide who they want to bid on...First come, first serve will still be allowed the rest of the week. I realize that there are Thursday games in the NFL now, but teams have rosters that are deep enough and the bye weeks are not a part of those games, so some weeks there may be a game or two where waivers will run after those games.
#2: We need to boost up the scoring for DEF/ST's a bit in this league...I've tinkered with this over the years, but only giving points for sacks, turnovers, and TD's has not given the most accurate picture of these DEF's. In the past we have used a formula for awarding points to DEF/ST based on offensive points allowed...I would like to add this in for next year...here is the scoring for DEF's that I'm proposing...
#3: Missed Field Goals and PAT's...This is something that I have incorporated into a couple of my other leagues and I think it has worked out very well. It adds intrigue and suspense to kickers and games and creates equality among the positions. On each other position, QB/RB/WR/TE/DEF (proposed) they can all lose points based on bad performances. Except for kickers...so here is the formula that I propose:
#4: An overhaul of the format of the league, schedule, and prize payouts...This isn't as complicated as it seems, but it is based on one big change...We end our regular season in Week 13 an our playoffs end in Week 16 of the NFL season and not Week 17. I have agonized over this probably as much as anyone over the years, but it has become painfully obvious that at least half the NFL treats Week 17 like a preseason game. We can't have our championship decided in a Week that teams just don't play their starters. I've looked at a lot of other leagues and most everyone ends in Week 16. So I researched and the best way that I can come up to do this and to maintain our structure is the following:
We split the league into 2 Conferences each with two 3-team division. So that means there will be a total of 4 divisions with three teams each. That way each team plays it's division opponents twice and each other team in the league once in a 13 week schedule. Since we like to use the 2 team bye system this works out well...The top division champ in each conference will get the top seeds and the 1st round byes. The other two division champs will get Seeds #3 and #4. That leaves two wild card teams left. I would like to award these two to the teams with the next best record and abandon giving the final wild card to the top scoring team. Because we only have 3 teams in each division, every team has a 1 in 3 shot at winning the division and getting into the playoffs. These odds are very good, and I feel that the teams with the next best records should get those final wild cards. Our playoffs would then start in Week 14 and go through Week 16. In this format I have to spread the money around a bit differently so I propose we get rid of the final 3 Weeks $100 prize and go with this format for payouts:
League Champion: $250
Runner-Up: $100
Toilet Bowl Winner: $25
Conference Winners (2): $100
Division Winners (2): $75
Wild Card Teams (2): $50
I know this is a lot to digest, but really let me hear your thoughts...I've put a lot of work into coming up with these ideas to make the league better...Thanks a lot everyone...

The Seinfeld Regular Season has ended and it was a heck of a year. Here is your regular season awards and recap... 2006 Seinfeld Player of the Year: LaDainian Tomlinson. This was one of those years where it wasn't even close. Tomlinson outscored the #2 player in the league, Drew Brees by over 90 points. Tomlinson outscored the combined total points of 4 other 1st round picks this year. (Jordan, Williams, Portis, Alexander). If you had given up your 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks in this year's draft to move up to get him, you probably made a good decision (more on that later). 2006 Seinfeld Team of the Year: This was a tough call, but I'm going to go with Cap's Avengers as the Team of the Year. With the pre-draft trade down from the #1 overall spot. To running away with the league early on, to holding things together late in the year after they lost McNabb for the season, this team has been resilient all year. Tomlinson can make up for a lot of mistakes, but this team made several great moves this year and finished at 11-3. They acquired Marques Colston in Week 2 and he was a great pickup all year. I'm not sure how much this team has left for the playoffs, but this is a regular season award and it goes to the Avengers. 2006 Draft Pick Steal of the Year: I'm going to go with Buck Naked's pick of Frank Gore in the 7th round. Travis Henry and Tony Romo were both picked in the 15th round of the draft, but their teams waived them early on in the year so that doesn't really count. Drew Brees in the 6th round by Spongeworthy was also in consideration, and crazy as it sounds, the Bears DEF/ST in the 7th round might also be considered a steal. They have scored more overall points than half of the 1st round picks this year. 2006 Free Agent Pick up of the Year: This league QB's play a big time role in teams success and Shortcake Delight made two great moves this year that came within a few points of secureing them a playoff spot. With the pickups of Vince Young and Tony Romo during the season, Shortcake completely revamped their QB position and came so close to riding them to the playoffs. 2006 Streak of the Year: Bull 1983's 5 game winning streak from Week 8-12 made the difference in their season and locked up the top Wild Card Spot in the league. At the time Bull's team was 3-4 and their playoff hopes were fading. Bull pulled it together and rattled off the impressive streak. 2006 Story of the Year: The stunning pre-draft trade (and when I mean pre-draft I mean literally about 15 minutes before the draft). Cap's Avengers traded down from the #1 overall spot to #3 overall and swapped picks in the next 3 even rounds. Here is how the trade looks with the players that were drafted involved: Cap's Avengers gave up Larry Johnson, Chad Johnson, Reggie Bush, and Rod Smith to The Highlight Reel for LaDainian Tomlinson, Donovan McNabb, Warrick Dunn, and Joe Horn. This was a stunning trade at the time, but the real story was how these two moved around the #2 team, Dave's Waves and ended up both having great years (11-3 records), while the team with the #2 pick, Dave's Waves struggled this year. Compare those players picked in those spots with the players Dave's Waves took in those same rounds: Shaun Alexander, Randy Moss, Julius Jones, and Keenan McCardell. It's easy to see why these two teams made the most of their picks and positioned themselves for great years. Good luck in the playoffs everyone... Brian |

Short and Sweet, here's the playoff picture and making sense of the madness... #1: The Highlight Reel (Division Champ) *Clinched Division title #4: Bull 1983 (Top Wild Card) *Clinched Playoff spot #1: Turkey Timers, 1218 The Turkey Timers look pretty good right now, but you never know what can happen the last two weeks. The Highlight Reel has nothing to worry about except, getting one of the top 2 seeds at this point (and the first round bye that goes with it), Cap's Avengers is trying to hold off Bull 1983 for the Division and clinch the other top seed and 1st round bye. Serenity Now and Chili Crashers are battling for the divison. Pretty simple actually... Have fun everyone... |

The rankings are as if the playoffs started this week... #1: Cap's Avengers, 8-2 (1069 points): With McNabb, Tomlinson, and Colston it's hard to imagine this team ever losing, but they did that this week losing a big game to Bull 1983. Those three did their damage but were not enough to get past Bull. Regardless this team has the top spot and looks solid going forward. #2: The Highlight Reel, 7-3 (1070 points): Right on the Avengers tails of the #1 seed are the Highlight Reel, which as virtually clinched their division already. A 133 point outburst this week in their win over the Turkey Timers. Chad Johnson showed up in a big way and the Bears DEF is putting up big points again. #3: Chili Crashers, 7-3 (1003 points): The hottest team in the league right now, winners of 5 straight are the Chili Crashers. They bombed the Tekies this week to take over sole possession of 1st place in the division. Patrick Crayton was a great pickup and a nice addition to the scoring this week. They still have aspirations on a #1 seed but have to be careful not to slip, their division is tough. #4: Serenity Now, 6-4 (1020 points): After the top three, Serenity Now is right behind with a good point showing and a solid record. It will be a fun race down the stretch to see if they can over take Chili, as they are hot as well winning their last 4 games. A nice win over Buck Naked as Roethlisberger and Cotchery were unlikely heroes this week. Jeff is doing the right things with his lineup during this streak. #5: Bull 1983, 6-4 (983 points): Bull has rattled off 3 wins in a row and is starting to make that late season push. Willie Parker and Carson Palmer almost single-handedly helped them knock off the top team Cap's Avengers this week and kept the streak alive. Bull has a pretty deep team right now and is going to make things tough on the rest of the league down the stretch. #6: Turkey Timers, 3-7 (1008 points): The final playoff spot in this league goes to the top scoring team left over and right now that is the 3-7 Turkey Timers. Tracy would kill to get a playoff spot this year and right now they are in if we started this week. Unfortunately there is lots of competition for this spot with several teams just back in the points department. The Turkey Timers suffered the loss this week but scored over 100 points so they are doing the right things. #7: Buck Naked, 5-5 (975 points): George Costanza's porn star name is trying to get in either on record or total points, but right now they are in a bit of trouble. They have lost 2 in a row and have slipped below the Turkey Timers for the top point spot. They need McGahee back and now Huard's status is in question so this team is shaky right now. #8: Shortckake Delight, 4-6 (966 points): This team is starting to build a bit of momentum as we head down the stretch. They had a tough loss to Dave's Waves but points might be this teams chance at the playoffs. Tony Romo is starting to get it going along with Steven Jackson. #9: Dave's Waves, 5-5 (924 points): Speaking of Dave's Waves here they are, a game up in the standings on Shortcake, but behind in total points. They need to leapfrog Bull to get in on record or have to start scoring some points. Nice win over Shortcake this week, with Favre and Delhomme leading the way. Will Shaun Alexander be the difference for this team? That will be interesting. #10: Tekies, 2-8 (915 points): This team has the worst record in the league, yet is less than 100 points out of the final playoff spot. They can get hot and could be the surprise team to make the playoffs in the league this year. This week's 63 points is not going to help that quest as they need to get a lot better play out of their QB's down the stretch. #11: Socko's Revenge, 4-6 (913 points): 3 losses in a row have put my team in a bad spot. No longer much of a threat to get in on record and the points are not going to help either. Mark Clayton was a nice surprise with 18 points this week, but I can't seem to get much of anyone to score in double-digits this year. It might be time to book my passage to the Toilet Bowl. #12: Spongeworthy: 3-7 (875 points): Well at least I'll have some company in the Toilet Bowl this year. As it appears that he Spongeness is all but booked for the swirling waters. Sponge was pretty pleased with herself this week avenging an earlier season loss to Socko's Revenge and probably effectively ending my shot at the playoffs. Thanks a lot! Good luck everyone this week.... |
