I'm back folks...Welcome to 2007...
Congratulations are in order for Jay Hatem and Shady Saliba as they ran through the Raging Bull League playoffs and won the 2007 Raging Bull League title in a matchup that wasn't even close over The Sledge Hammer (163-100). 4 players scored more than 20 points for Thunder including 46 points from Steven Jackson to clinch the title. The Sledge Hammer got messed up pretty bad when Ron Dayne was a mysterious zero for the Texans game this week...Congrats again to Jay and Shady for winning the title...
Great job by a number of teams this year...Travis Dennee for getting to the title game, when he didn't think he'd even make the playoffs going into the final week of the year. Ryan Umlauft for dominating the league for most of the year. Rich Cecil for also having a tremendous regular season. Brad North and Chris Corcoran for getting hot late in the year to secure a playoff berths...Great job everyone...
I had a nice week off of work and some R&R to get me going for 2007...Jay and Shady...if you can send me a digital photo head shot and I'll post it on the SmartGuySports.com Hall of Champions...Each of the teams that have money owed to them I will be sending out an email and will set that up for you today...
New Year's Day is my favorite Day of the entire year...It's the day that I get up late...watch some college football...get bored, and start doing my final fantasy football roundups and cleanups for the year. The boredom hit me about noon today...Overall I'm pretty pleased with the rules for this year and how the league turned out...really the only thing I'd like to change is the trading system, which I think we tested pretty well this year...If anyone has any suggestions, let hear them now and we'll put them up for a vote...
I hope that everyone enjoyed the year and I hope that everyone is coming back next year...I've got a couple of announcements to make on 2007. One...I have enlisted Dirtbag and my brother Brad into helping do recaps and stuff for this league, which I took on, which should free myself up for more of that in 2007. I know you guys all like that stuff and I'm going to try and accomodate as much as possible...
I have decided that there are some rules changes that I would really like to incorporate into 2007 and beyond...I'm not a big fan of going crazy with rules changes, but there are a couple of items that I think definately need to be fixed in 2007. I'm going to spell them out here and if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or have some ideas of their own, then let's hear them...I'd like to get these decided on and posted soon. Thanks...
#1: Waivers...I would like to move the weekly waivers from running on Wednesday night to running on Friday nights...this gives teams more time to put in waivers and gives everyone more of a chance to pickup waivers fairly. Because waivers now run on Wednesday, some teams don't hardly use the waiver system and instead just put in first come first serve players...We would keep this for the rest of the week, just move the blind bidding from running on Wednesday nights to Friday nights...this gives everyone more of a shot to put in their waivers. I realize that there are Thursday games, but the bye weeks are over by them and I don't think it will be a big issue...
Other than that I think this league runs well and we think we have a solid format...I loved the way the FantasyAuctioneer.com draft went, and I heard a lot of positive feedback from you guys on it...
Thanks and have a great 2007...

The Raging Bull Regular Season ended this week and your regular season recap is here: 2006 Raging Bull Player of the Year: LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson scored 100 more points than the next closest player in the league this year. Restaurant Quality Lemonade rode Tomlinson all the way to one of the top 4 spots in the playoffs. Consider this...I went back and recalculate RQL's results if they had drafted Larry Johnson instead of LT and played him all year. They would have finished at 6-8 and would have missed the playoffs. And we're not talking about a slouch here, Larry Johnson was the #2 overall player in the league. That's how huge LT was this year. 2006 Raging Bull Team of the Year: This year's top teams were incredibly close but the award for the top team of the year goes to Thunder. They were the highest scoring team in the league this year with 1667 points and lead the league in All Play Record with 98-56. Thunder made no trades all year long and didn't hit on any really great free agent pickups except for Vince Young. Thunder had a tremendous draft though, loading up on loads of top talent like Frank Gore, Steven Jackson, Chester Taylor, Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans. 2006 Draft Pick Steal of the Year: Drew Brees went to the Blazing Gunz in the draft for $1. Imagine getting the #4 overall scoring player in the league for just a single buck in the auction, ten times more than the Gunz paid for their "starting QB" Eli Manning. The Gunz paid $41 for Shaun Alexander in the auction...just imagine what would have happened if they have gone after LT instead of Alexander. I went back and calculated what type of season the Gunz would have had if they had LT and Brees instead of Alexander and Brees. Instead of finishing at 5-9 and out of the playoffs, the Gunz would have been 12-2 and the top team in the league. I'm sure Dave is going to hate me for bringing that up. 2006 Free Agent Pick Up of the Year: Maurice Jones-Drew was picked up off Blind Bid Waivers in Week 4 by Socko's Revenge for $29. Jones-Drew would finish the year as the 11th best RB in the league. Unfortunately Socko's Revenge pissed him away in a trade late in the year and his big games down the stretch did little to help Socko's Revenge. 2006 Streak of the Year: College Crop Kid finished the year with 5 clutch wins in a row to clinch their divison and the top seed in the playoffs. They were 5-4 entering Week 10 and then caught fire to win their last 5 games. 2006 Story of the Year: The controversial trade that was made between the Chili Crashers and Socko's Revenge. Remember it? Socko's Revenge gave up Tony Romo, Julius Jones, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Donald Driver to Chili Crashers for David Carr, Lamont Jordan, Torry Holt, and Terrell Owens. At the time the league was nearing a mutiny on this trade and the deal spurred the commissioner to invoke the proposed new trade veto rules. Cooler heads prevailed and the league did not vote to veto the deal. Looking back on this, it was a terrible trade for Socko's Revenge. This deal was made in Week 9, at the time Socko's Revenge was 3-5 and Chili Crashers were 2-6. Socko's Revenge went 4-2 after the deal and Chili went 4-2 as well after the deal. Had Socko's Revenge not made the deal, they may very well have made the playoffs. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs... Brian |

Short and Sweet...here's the Raging Bull Playoff Picture: #1: Thunder (Division Champ) #4: Shortcake Delight (#1 Wild Card) That's it...those teams are virtually guaranteed playoffs spots. The only one that even mathematically could flip is the Mean Machine, but it is highly unlikely. That leaves the #6 spot based on total points only...here are the contenders for that: #1: The Sledge Hammer, 1327 68 points seperate The Sledge Hammers from the Blazing Gunz for that last spot. It's going to be crazy the last two weeks and lots of scoreboard watching. Now the Division races are still alive. College Crop Kid and RQL are tied in record, so that race could flip. Also Thunder and Shortcake Delight race is still up for grabs....Remember that payouts are important as far as money goes for this league. FUN, FUN, FUN... |

The Current Playoff Seeds if the season ended today and their results from this past week: #1: The Mean Machine, 7-3 (1193 points): Beat Steve's Stars to take command of the Idiot Division with Willie Parker's 40 point outburst. #2: Thunder, 7-3 (1172 points): Beat up on Moo Juice to win their 2nd in a row and have eyes on the top seed in the league. #3: College Crop Kid, 6-4 (1116 points): Just blew up this week with 184 points in a major show of force against Lemonade to take over control of the divison. Chad Johnson's 48 were huge. #4: Shortcake Delight, 6-4 (1162 points): Tough loss to the Chili Crashers. But Philip Rivers was able to put up 30 points. This team is scoring lots of points each week. #5: Restaurant Quality Lemonade, 6-4 (1092 points): Tough loss to the Kid this week, needs to reclaim the division as their are a lot of competitors for this spot. #6: Socko's Revenge, 5-5 (1127 points): This spot gets in on the total points. Socko with a big win over the Gunz this week. McNair and Steve Smith with big weeks. #7: Bull 1983, 5-5 (1113 points): Just a few points behind the Revenge, Bull has won 4 in a row and is storming back into the race. Losing Portis is a major blow hes now picking up any RB that plays in the NFL. #8: The Sledge Hammer, 4-6 (1091 points): Really could have used the win over Bull this week. Brian Westbrook with a big week, but little else. #9; Chili Crashers, 3-7 (1013); The Crashers big trade has turned it around and now is still in the running for a spot. #10: Blazing Gunz, 3-7 (1010 points): Lost a tough one to Socko...SD DEF scored negative points this week for them. Need to get rolling in a hurry. #11: Steve's Stars, 5-5 (908 points): I don't know how this team has 5 wins, with the few points it has scored this year. They need to pick up wins because it's doubtful they'll get in on points. #12: Moo Juice, 3-7 (905 points): Not a good record and the worst points in the league equals a pretty bad record. Randy Moss and inconsistent QB play is killing this team. Good luck this week everyone... Brian |
