Cowchip Auction League Article - 2006 Champion is Crowned
Travis Dennee 2006 Cowchip Champion
I'm back folks...Welcome to 2007...

Congratulations are in order for Travis Dennee and his Sweat Hawgs as they repeated as champions and won the Cowchip League for the 2nd time in a row...with this great group of owners, that is quite an accomplishment...The Sweat Hawgs just pummelled Brad North and the Mean Machine in the title game (137-66)...amazingly the Sweat Hawgs were so deep this year that their bench this week scored 117 points!  Great job again Travis as you get the repeat...can you go for the infamous "threepeat" (I just paid Pat Riley 25 cents...I'll take it out of the league kiddy)...

Great job by a number of teams this year...Brad North for getting to the title game, off the #5 seed.  John Murray for dominating the league for most of the year.  Brad Kreklau for starting strong and then holding on to get a division title...Great job everyone...

I had a nice week off of work and some R&R to get me going for 2007...Travis...if you can send me a digital photo head shot and I'll post it on the SmartGuySports.com Hall of Champions, or if you want me to use a stock photo let me know (haha)...Each of the teams that have money owed to them I will be sending out an email and will set that up for you today...

New Year's Day is my favorite Day of the entire year...It's the day that I get up late...watch some college football...get bored, and start doing my final fantasy football roundups and cleanups for the year.  The boredom hit me about noon today...Overall I'm pretty pleased with the rules for this year and how the league turned out...really the only thing I'd like to change is the trading system, which I think we tested pretty well this year...If anyone has any suggestions, let hear them now and we'll put them up for a vote...

I hope that everyone enjoyed the year and I hope that everyone is coming back next year...I've got a couple of announcements to make on 2007.  One...I have enlisted Dirtbag and my brother Brad into helping do recaps and stuff for this league, which I took on, which should free myself up for more of that in 2007.  I know you guys all like that stuff and I'm going to try and accomodate as much as possible...

I have decided that there are some rules changes that I would really like to incorporate into 2007 and beyond...I'm not a big fan of going crazy with rules changes, but there are a couple of items that I think definately need to be fixed in 2007.  I'm going to spell them out here and if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or have some ideas of their own, then let's hear them...I'd like to get these decided on and posted soon.  Thanks...

#1:  Waivers...I would like to move the weekly waivers from running on Wednesday night to running on Friday nights...this gives teams more time to put in waivers and gives everyone more of a chance to pickup waivers fairly.  Because waivers now run on Wednesday, some teams don't hardly use the waiver system and instead just put in first come first serve players...We would keep this for the rest of the week, just move the blind bidding from running on Wednesday nights to Friday nights...this gives everyone more of a shot to put in their waivers.  I realize that there are Thursday games, but the bye weeks are over by them and I don't think it will be a big issue...

Other than that I think this league runs well and we think we have a solid format...I loved the way the FantasyAuctioneer.com draft went, and I heard a lot of positive feedback from you guys on it...

Thanks and have a great 2007...

Cowchip Regular Season Recap
Cowchip Auction League Article - Cowchip Regular Season Recap
Cowchip MVP: L. Tomlinson

The Cowchip Regular Season ended this week and your regular season recap is here:

The 2006 Cowchip Player of the Year:  LaDainian Tomlinson.  Tomlinson scored 100 more points than the next closest player in the league, but amazingly his owner Dan Marks was only able to win 3 games with LT on his roster this year.  That was a contender for story of the year.  The 8 teams in the Cowchip playoffs are probably pretty happy that none of them have to worry about LT.

The 2006 Cowchip Team of the Year:  Moo Juice.  According to the All Play Standings, Moo Juice would have been 103-51 on the year.  That is 9 games better than any other team this year and shows Moo Juice's consistency.  Moo Juice ended the year with a 9-5 record and missed being the top scoring team in the league by 1 point.  Two shrewd trades they made this year have the Moo Juice as legit contenders for the title.  Before the season started, they traded Aaron Brooks, Steven Jackson, and Edgerrin James to B&S for Marc Bulger, Larry Johnson, and Deuce McAllister.  Then in mid-October they traded Frank Gore, Derrick Mason, Hines Ward, and Heath Miller to Cap N Cheese for Shaun Alexander, Maurice Morris, Amani Toomer, and Antonio Gates.  They upgraded at positions they needed to and traded players away at their highest value and took risks.

The 2006 Draft Pick Steal of the Year:  Drew Brees, $1 by Chili Crashers.  To get the 4th highest scoring player overall in the league for $1 is quite a heist.  Compare Brees to Peyton Manning at $23.  Brees has 282 points on the year and Manning has 264.

The 2006 Free Agent Pick Up of the Year:  Maurice Jones-Drew.  Drew is the 11th highest scoring RB in the league this year and he was picked up by the Sweat Hawgs on a Blind Bid Waiver in Week 4 for $26.  Well worth that investment.  In fact, the Sweat Hawgs picked up all three of their RB's currently on their roster via the Blind Bid Waiver wire (Jones-Drew, Ladell Betts, and Travis Henry)...Those three are ranked #11, #18, and #19 overall for RB's this year.

The 2006 Streak of the Year:  H-Town Ruff Riders winning 6 in a row from Weeks 5-10.  This sealed the division and one of the top seeds in the league for the Ruff Riders.  They rode the play of Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook during the impressive run.

The 2006 Story of the Year:  League Dominance.  8 of the 12 teams in the Cowchip league finished at .500 or better this year.  As the top of the league just dominated on a week to week basis this year.  Both the Poison Sluts and sLimz sLeeperz were 3-11 and were the whipping boys most of the year.  Going into the final week or so of the season all 8 playoff spots were up for grabs which is just insane.  5 of the top 15 overall top scoring players this year will not be in the playoffs including the #1 overall player, LT.  The regular season is over and the 3 week tournament to crown the King Cowchip is now here.

Good luck to everyone in the playoffs...

Brian

Week 12 Playoff Picture
Cowchip Auction League Article - Week 12 Playoff Picture
Playoffs?

Short and sweet here is the playoff picture:

#1:  H-Town Ruff Riders (Division Champ)
#2:  Sweat Hawgs (Division Champ)
#3:  Chili Crashers (Division Champ)
#4:  Moo Juice (8-4, Top Wild Card)
#5:  The Mean Machine (7-5, Wild Card)

Then the mess starts...There are three spots remaining and three teams tied at 6-6.  When you factor in their H2H matchups, they all are 1-1, so they have all between one of the other teams, but lost to one of the other three.  So then it goes to total points.

#6:  Shortcake Delight
#7:  Cap N Cheese
#8:  Bob & Steve's Stars

On the outside looking in are:

Bull 1983, at 5-7 and Socko's Revenge at 5-7...Let's see how these guys tie-breakers go between each other and the last three wild cards

Bull 1983:  Lost to Socko's Revenge, Lost to Bob & Steve's Stars, Lost once to Cap N Cheese (play again this week), Lost to Shortcake Delight.  So basically on any tiebreaker, Dirtbag is going to be screwed because he lost Head to Head to all of the competition.

Socko's Revenge:  Beat Bull 1983, Lost to Cap N Cheese, Beat Shortcake Delight once (play again this week), Beat Bob & Steve's Stars.  Socko's has the tiebreaker advantage over everyone, except Cap N Cheese, but is a game back.

So here's the English version of this:

Bull and Socko's Revenge desperately need wins this week over Cap N Cheese/Shortcake Delight.  If not, they are in no man's land as far as the playoffs go.
H-Town Ruff Riders have basically clinched the division
Chili Crashers and Cap N Cheese are tied for the division and play each other heads up in the final week.  Bull could also possibly get in the mix for the division but needs a lot of help
Moo Juice and Sweat Hawgs play this week and according to my calculations the winner will win the division.  If Sweat Hawgs win they will be a game up and will have beaten Moo Juice twice, so they will have the tie breaker.  If Moo Juice wins, they will be a game up and the H2H will be even, and they've scored a ton more points.  The other team is guaranteed a wild card spot.
The Mean Machine would need a total collapse to not make the playoffs.

Fun, fun fun...good luck everyone
Brian

Playoff REMINDER

Remember that playoff spots and standings are based on:

#1: Winning %
#2: Head to Head Record
#3: Total Points
#4: Division Record
#5: Total points scored the last 3 weeks

The playoffs are a simple 8 team tournament as shown:

Team 1 vs Team 8
Team 4 vs Team 5

Team 2 vs Team 7
Team 3 vs Team 6

The winners then advance. The Toilet Bowl playoffs is a simple 4 team tournament.

So for example...Bull has a 5-6 record and is tied with Cap N Cheese and Shortcake Delight.  There are only two spots left for 5-6 teams.  Cap N Cheese and Shortcake Delight would both be in and Bull would be out even though he has more points scored.  Bull lost to both Cap N Cheese and Shortcake Delight this year.  Shortcake Delight beat Cap N Cheese straight up so they would have the tie-breaker over them and be the higher of the two.

Thanks
Brian

Week 11 Recap
Cowchip Auction League Article - Week 11 Recap
Colston paces the Ruff Riders to the top

News and Notes:  So check this out, MFL has a new feature to include lead articles, which is where I will post each leagues recaps.  So with all of the screwy scoring this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few scoring changes.  The Sweat Hawgs and Bob & Steve's Stars locked up in a real close one this week.  There were a couple of really big scores this week and some really shitty scores.  Bull dropped 163 points on his nephew Chili Crashers to win his second in a row.  Bull is quietly moving up the standings.  The Crashers on the other hand are in a free fall.  They have lost 4 in a row and are now at 5-5 after a 5-1 start.  The hottest team in the league?  That would be the H-Town Ruff Riders, the top team in the league and the highest scoring team in the league with 6 wins in a row.  The Ruff Riders are looking to lock up that top seed for the playoffs.  The Ruff Riders knocked off Socko's Revenge who have now lost 3 in a row and need to get it turned around in a hurry.  sLimz sLeeperz are also in a free fall with 3 losses in a row, and having only scored 53 points this week in a loss to Cap N Cheese.  The Bull Shit Division has turned into a real race, with two 5-5 teams, a 4-6 team and a 3-7 team.  Remember guys, 8 teams make the playoffs in this league and there are 4 weeks left to go to make a statement.

Good luck to everyone this week.
