I'm back folks...Welcome to 2007...I've got about 100 emails to send to close up my 5 leagues this year, so let's get right to it...
Congratulations are in order to Dave Kreklau and Bull 1983 for winning the Seinfeld League title in a game that wasn't all that close (117-79) over Jeff Carey and Serenity Now. 5 players in double-digits for Bull led by Willie Parker were more than enough to beat Serenity Now. Bull's team was so loaded he had more than 50 points on his bench this week. Congrats Bull you won title's #7 and #8 this year.
Great job by a number of teams this year...Jeff Carey for getting to the title game, Troy Rex and Scott Koehler for dominating the league for most of the year. Tracy Haygen for really coming on late in the year and having a great year and Steve Preo for getting into the playoffs...Nice job guys...
Tracy Haygen wins the final three weeks $100 prize, as he was actually the high scorer in the league each of the last two weeks, if only he had a better week in his 1st round playoff game, he would have won the title...Quite an accomplishment.
I had a nice week off of work and some R&R to get me going for 2007...Dirtbag...if you can send me a digital photo head shot and I'll post it on the SmartGuySports.com Hall of Champions, or do you want me to just go with a stock photo (LMAO)...Each of the teams that have money owed to them I will be sending out an email and will set that up for you today...
New Year's Day is my favorite Day of the entire year...It's the day that I get up late...watch some college football...get bored, and start doing my final fantasy football roundups and cleanups for the year. The boredom hit me about noon today...So here's some final Seinfeld Business for the year...
The 2007 Draft Order was drawn using our random dice generator...here is the 2007 draft order:
#1: Socko's Revenge
#2: Serenity Now
#3: Cap's Avengers
#4: Bull 1983
#5: Tekies
#6: Spongeworthy
#7: Shortcake Delight
#8: Chili Crashers
#9: The Highlight Reel
#10: Dave's Waves
#11: Turkey Timers
#12: Buck Naked
This will give everyone a ton of stuff to think about in 2007...where and who can I pick in next year's draft. I hope that everyone enjoyed the year and I hope that everyone is coming back next year...I've got a couple of announcements to make on 2007. One...I have enlisted Dirtbag and my brother Brad into helping do recaps and stuff for their former leagues that I took on, which should free myself up for more of that in 2007. I know you guys all like that stuff and I'm going to try and accomodate as much as possible...
Secondly...I have decided that there are some rules changes that I would really like to incorporate into 2007 and beyond...I'm not a big fan of going crazy with rules changes, but there are a couple of items that I think definately need to be fixed in 2007. I'm going to spell them out here and if anyone has any comments, suggestions, or have some ideas of their own, then let's hear them...I'd like to get these decided on and posted soon. Thanks...
#1: Waivers...I really want to go to a blind bidding system that uses fake $100 to bid on free agents instead of using the worst-to-first method of picking up free agents. This really is the fairest and most equal system out there...but to make this work we need to move waivers from running on Wednesday night to running on Friday nights. This gives owners a longer week to decide who they want to bid on...First come, first serve will still be allowed the rest of the week. I realize that there are Thursday games in the NFL now, but teams have rosters that are deep enough and the bye weeks are not a part of those games, so some weeks there may be a game or two where waivers will run after those games.
#2: We need to boost up the scoring for DEF/ST's a bit in this league...I've tinkered with this over the years, but only giving points for sacks, turnovers, and TD's has not given the most accurate picture of these DEF's. In the past we have used a formula for awarding points to DEF/ST based on offensive points allowed...I would like to add this in for next year...here is the scoring for DEF's that I'm proposing...
Defensive scores (fumble/interception return for a TD: 4 points
Special teams scores (kick return/block kick return): 6 points
Safety: 5 points
Two points for each turnover caused by a defense or special teams.
One point per sack recorded by a defense
Offensive Points Allowed:
0-5 points allowed: 10 points
6-10 points allowed: 7 points
11-15 points allowed: 5 points
16-20 points allowed: 3 points
21-25 points allowed: 1 point
26-30 points allowed: -1 point
31-35 points allowed: -3 points
36-40 points allowed: -5 points
41-45 points allowed: -7 points
46+ points allowed: -10 points
#3: Missed Field Goals and PAT's...This is something that I have incorporated into a couple of my other leagues and I think it has worked out very well. It adds intrigue and suspense to kickers and games and creates equality among the positions. On each other position, QB/RB/WR/TE/DEF (proposed) they can all lose points based on bad performances. Except for kickers...so here is the formula that I propose:
PAT: 1 point
Missed PAT: -1 point
Field Goal (0-39 yards: 3 points), (40-49 yards: 4 points), (50+ yards: 5 points)
Missed Field Goals (0-39 yards: -3 points), (40-49 yards: -2 points), (50+ yards: -1 point)
#4: An overhaul of the format of the league, schedule, and prize payouts...This isn't as complicated as it seems, but it is based on one big change...We end our regular season in Week 13 an our playoffs end in Week 16 of the NFL season and not Week 17. I have agonized over this probably as much as anyone over the years, but it has become painfully obvious that at least half the NFL treats Week 17 like a preseason game. We can't have our championship decided in a Week that teams just don't play their starters. I've looked at a lot of other leagues and most everyone ends in Week 16. So I researched and the best way that I can come up to do this and to maintain our structure is the following:
We split the league into 2 Conferences each with two 3-team division. So that means there will be a total of 4 divisions with three teams each. That way each team plays it's division opponents twice and each other team in the league once in a 13 week schedule. Since we like to use the 2 team bye system this works out well...The top division champ in each conference will get the top seeds and the 1st round byes. The other two division champs will get Seeds #3 and #4. That leaves two wild card teams left. I would like to award these two to the teams with the next best record and abandon giving the final wild card to the top scoring team. Because we only have 3 teams in each division, every team has a 1 in 3 shot at winning the division and getting into the playoffs. These odds are very good, and I feel that the teams with the next best records should get those final wild cards. Our playoffs would then start in Week 14 and go through Week 16. In this format I have to spread the money around a bit differently so I propose we get rid of the final 3 Weeks $100 prize and go with this format for payouts:
League Champion: $250
Runner-Up: $100
Toilet Bowl Winner: $25
Conference Winners (2): $100
Division Winners (2): $75
Wild Card Teams (2): $50
I know this is a lot to digest, but really let me hear your thoughts...I've put a lot of work into coming up with these ideas to make the league better...Thanks a lot everyone...
