Thanks again to Jason for putting all of these out there for consideration. Let's put it to a vote and see if we get a majority in one direction. If that's the case, we can move to make the change. If things are split evenly without a majority, we'll have to look at other, probably smaller-scale, options.

Subject: Otto Thoughts - Three Ideas for consideration

Hello!

Here are three thoughts I had on possible changes.  I've listed them out as Idea #1, Idea #2, and Idea #3.  (Original and clever, is it not?)  :-)

Idea #1 - Baseline Format

Set a Baseline of $50.  Any player at $50 or lower will receive a set dollar amount increase, any player over that amount receives a percentage increase.

Top QB/RB/WR/TE - $10 / 20% increase, whichever is greater
#2 - #5 QB/RB/WR/TE - $8 / 15% increase, whichever is greater
#6 - #10 QB/RB/WR/TE - $5 / 10% increase, whichever is greater
#11 - #15 QB/RB/WR/TE - $3 / 5% increase, whichever is greater.

PRO's -
1) The rate that the salary cap accelerates remains consistent regardless of the cap price.  A $1 player accelerates consistently with a $64 player.

CON's -
1) A $1 player would have to finish at the top of his position for 5 years straight before he hit the $50 mark and a percentage increase.  The likelihood of that occuring is quite rare to nearly impossible.

Idea #2 - Set Dollar Amounts ONLY

Any player finishing in the top 15 receive a set dollar increase, similar to the current system.  No percentages whatsoever.

Top QB/RB/WR/TE - $20
#2 - #5 QB/RB/WR/TE - $15
#6 - #10 QB/RB/WR/TE - $10
#11 - #15 QB/RB/WR/TE - $5.

PRO's
1) Everyone, regardless of salary, gets a hefty salary raise based on their performance.
2) Percentages are out the window so there is no more calculating.

CON's
1) ! A $1 player who becomes a stud and places first overall for several years hits the $60 mark in three straight years.  That's normal pricing for a stud RB, but way high for a QB, WR, or TE in comparison.  So this system does not allow for a RB to accelerate fast enough while it accelerates too fast for the QB, WR, and TE positions.

Idea #3 - Set Dollar Scale System by Position

This idea is based on a few concepts.
1) RBs are always the highest priced position.
2) QBs / TEs only start one player per team and average out at a lower price in general.
3) WRs start 3 per team and thus are more widespread throughout the 16 teams.

So, here is a sliding scale based on two factors, player position (QB, RB, etc) and inherent value.

QBs & TEs (1 starter per team)

TOP QB & TE - $20 increase
#2 QB & TE - $19 increase
#3 QB & TE - $18 increase
#4 QB & TE - $17 increase
#5 QB & TE - $16 increase
#6 QB & TE - $15 increase
#7 QB & TE - $14 increase
#8 QB & TE - $13 increase
#9 QB & TE - $12 increase
#10 QB & TE - $11 increase
#11 QB & TE - $10 increase
#12 QB & TE - $9 increase
#13 QB & TE - $8 increase
#14 QB & TE - $7 increase
#15 QB & TE - $6 increase
#16 QB & TE - $5 increase

(I have the top 16 players receiving salary increases since there are 16 teams in the league)

RBs (1 or 2 starters per team)

TOP RB - $30 increase
#2 RB - $29 increase
#3 RB - $28 increase
#4 RB! - $27 increase
#5 RB - $26 increase
#6 RB - $25 increase
#7 RB - $24 increase
#8 RB - $23 increase
#9 RB - $22 increase
#10 RB - $21 increase
#11 RB - $20 increase
#12 RB - $19 increase
#13 RB - $18 increase
#14 RB - $17 increase
#15 RB - $16 increase
#16 RB - $15 increase

Since RBs are the highest priced players in the league, their increases should reflect their higher value.

WRs (3 to 4 starters per team)

TOP WR - $25 increase
#2 WR - $24 increase
#3 WR - $23 increase
#4 WR - $22 increase
#5 WR - $21 increase
#6 WR - $20 increase
#7 WR - $19 increase
#8 W! R - $18 increase
#9 WR - $17 increase
#10 WR - $16 increase
#11 WR - $15 increase
#12 WR - $14 increase
#13 WR - $13 increase
#14 WR - $12 increase
#15 WR - $11 increase
#16 WR - $10 increase
#17 WR - $9 increase
#18 WR - $8 increase
#19 WR - $7 increase
#20 WR - $6 increase
#21 WR - $5 increase
#22 WR - $4 increase
#23 WR - $3 increase
#24 WR - $2 increase

This would cover a one and a half starters on a team (16 + 8) at the WR position.  The price is not as significant as the RBs, lower than the QBs and TEs, and covers more of the players who made an impact.

PROs
1) Easy to figure out.  I have the #3 scoring WR so his cap increase is $23.  No sweat.
2) Covers the variance between the salary pricing of RBs vs WRs vs QBs & TEs.

CONs
1) Hits more WRs than normal, but on the flip side this is a WR heavy league as far as starting requirements go.

That's about it, only three ideas to consider.  Not as much as I thought I could generate, but it's a start.  So munch on these over your wheaties in the morning.  :-)
