League Mission Statement
The purpose of the FantasyGuru.Com Magazine Expert League is to provide an opportunity for 12 fantasy football experts to show case their fantasy football prowess as well as promote their respective publications while in competition with their peers for a Big Screen TV!
General League Set-Up
The league will consist of 12 teams in three divisions.
Owners will be able to carry up to a 20 man roster, with no injured reserve.
Starting lineups will consist of 1QB, 2RB, 3WRS, 1TE, 1 Flex (RB, WR or TE), 1K and 1 Def/Special Team (10 starters total).
The league will consist of a 13-week regular season and a 3-week playoff in weeks 14, 15 and 16. No league play will take place in week 17. You will play each team in your division three times, four teams in the other divisions once.
The League will be run via the myfantasyleague.com website
Scoring
Passing:
- 1 pt per 20 yards
- 4 points for every passing TD.
- Minus one point (-1) for every interception thrown.
- 2 points for every 2-point conversion.
Rushing:
- 1 pt per 10 yards
- 6 points for every rushing TD.
- 2 points for every 2-point conversion.
Receiving:
- 1 pt per 10 yards
- 6 points for every receiving TD.
- 1 point per reception
- 2 points for every 2-point conversion.
Placekicking:
- 1 point - Extra Point
- 3 points - FG 1 yard - 39 yards
- 4 points - FG 40 yards - 49 yards
- 5 points - FG 50 yards - 50+ yards
OFFENSIVE FUMBLE RECOVERY FOR A TD-6 points for the TD-(this will cover any repeat of the "Keenan McCardell Incident" in 2003.) Do note that we will not however include fumble recovery yardage gained. So in the McCardell situation he got his 6 points for a TD, the Tampa Defense got nothing and McCardell got no yardage points.
Team Defense/Special Teams: (Def/ST consists of Punt return and Kickoff return, and Defensive formations)
- Sack: 1 pt
- Turnover recovery: 2 pts
- Any TD (Turnover, Kick return, Blocked FG): 6 pts
- Safety: 2 pts
- Shutout by defense: 5 pts
- Allowing 5 points or less in a game: 2 pts
All offensive players can score points in every category, including kickers. For example, if a team runs a fake FG and a kicker throws a TD pass, the kicker will receive the points for the TD pass and potentially yardage points depending on the distance of the TD.
Individual players will not be awarded points for punt or kickoff returns for TDs.
- Interesting twist: To reward the teams that finish with the two highest overall point totals, the points leader will have 5 pts added to his final score for both playoff weeks. The team with the second most pts will have 3 points added to his score for all playoff games.
All scores become final 1 hour prior to the end of waivers requests for the current week. (9:00pm EDT on Fridays and Thursdays at 1pm eastern when there are Thursday games) Any scoring changes made by the NFL prior to that deadline will be accepted and league results altered where necessary.
Starting Lineups
Starting Line-ups consist of
1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1 Flex (RB, WR or TE), 1 Kicker and 1 Def/ST for 10 roster spots.
Owners enter their lineups via the league software on the homepage. Players will lock at the kick-off of THEIR game each week. In other words, if you have two players in late games you are debating about, you can wait up until kick off of their games to decide versus having to decide on them by kick-off of the early games. This could also come in handy on Monday nights if people have injury issues and another player available also playing Monday night.
If you fail to enter a line-up, the software will automatically default to the previous week’s line-up.
Waivers
Waivers will be done via a four round waiver draft each week. The draft order is determined in a “worst to first” manner. The tiebreaker methods for waivers can be found in the League Rules link on the website. You will be expected to enter your own waiver requests via the website software. Any waiver requests sent directly to the commissioner will not be valid unless there is a situation that requires special consideration.
The waiver function becomes available to owners at 1am EDT Tuesday each week. The ability to enter waiver choices via the draft process ends at 8:59pm EDT on Fridays. No waivers will be allowed after the Friday deadline.
During the weeks with a Thursday night game, the waiver deadline will be moved up to Thursdays at 1pm eastern (12pm central). For Thanksgiving Day games we will move up the waiver deadline to Wednesday night at 11:59pm eastern (10:59pm central)
Waivers will run automatically at the designated times
Players dropped from a roster do not become available until the following week’s waiver process begins (1am EDT Tuesday mornings).
The first waivers process will not take place until prior to Week 2 (no preseason waivers).
Trades
Trades can be offered and accepted by owners via the website software. Trades do not need commissioner approval. This commissioner will assume that the caliber of owner in this league will not require commish approval necessary for every trade.
Trade Protests
Although trades do not need commissioner approval. The commissioner does reserve the right to put any questionable trade up to a league wide vote for reversal, based on the request (protest) of three or more owners via an email to the commissioner. The three-owner requirement must be met within 48 hours of a trade in order for an official protest vote to take place. If a sufficient number of owners within that 48-hour timeframe do not protest a trade, the trade stands.
If indeed there are three owners who protest a trade within 48 hours, approval of the trade will go up for a vote by teams not involved in the trade. Uninvolved owners will have 24 hours to cast their vote (via email to the commish). If an owner does not cast a vote, it will be interpreted as a vote to allow the trade. Reversal of any trade would require a majority vote of the uninvolved owners. (i.e. 5 of 8 in a two team trade, 4 of 7 in a three team trade, etc.) The commissioner does not vote. In the case of a trade being reversed it may be necessary to go back and alter scores of games already played. Such an activity could alter win/loss records as well as the standings.
Keep in mind that lopsided trades are acceptable, but collusion is not. I will once again assume that the caliber of owner in this league will make this a moot point.
General Trade Info
When conducting a trade, the software will not allow you to exceed the maximum roster spot number of 20. This can become an issue if you try to do a trade where one team gets more players than they give up. There are a few ways around this. One work around is to include in the trade the player (or players) you plan to cut anyway to get down to the 20 player limit. This way the trade is always a one for one ratio. Another option is to email the commissioner and have me cut the necessary number of players from your roster prior to accepting the trade. The final option is to cut players during the previous week’s waivers and not add any new players, so you start the new week with less than 20. All three work, but option #1 is the cleanest and does not require any commissioner assistance.
Trade Deadline
No trades will be allowed after kickoff of week 13.
Tiebreakers
Head to Head, Match-up Tie Breaker-
The commissioner will break ties manually in head-to-head match-ups. The weekly tiebreaker will be the highest scoring player on each roster (starter or non-starter). If there is a tie at the highest player, it will go to the second highest player and so on (using all 20 players on both rosters if necessary), until the tie is broken. The same method is used to break ties in playoff games.
Divisional Standings tiebreakers are as follows.
Two Way Tiebreakers
1. Overall record
2. Total points scored
3. Head to head record
4. Division record
5. Most points against
6. Highest single game score to date
7. Coin flip
Please note that total points are valued higher than head-to-head match-ups in the divisional standings.
Three Way Tiebreakers at Overall Record (Season Standings)
1. Most points scored out of all three teams
2. Best head-to-head record between all tied teams
3. Best division record
4. Most points against
5. Highest single game score to date
6. Three way coin flip (whoever has non-duplicate result wins)
Important note - the three (or more) way tiebreaker will be used until only two teams are tied, either by enough teams advancing or dropping out to make it a two-way tie. At that point, the tiebreaker reverts back to step #1 of the two way tiebreaker
Playoff Tie Breakers
6 teams will advance to the playoffs. Three division winners and 3 wild card teams.
Division winners are determined via the tiebreaker method described above in the divisional standings tiebreakers.
Wild Card Teams will be determined via the method below
1. Overall record
2. Total points
3. Head to head record
4. Divisional Record (if tied teams are ALL in same division)
5. Most points against
6. Highest single game scored to date
7. Coin flip
Please note that wild card teams are chosen without respect to division. It is possible (albeit unlikley) that all 4 teams in one division could make the playoffs. A divsion winenr and 3 wild cards.
In the tiebreakers, please notice again that total points is considered before head-to-head record in every scenario. You could have the same winning pecentage as someone in your division and go 3-0 versus them in the regular season, but still have them get in the playofs ahead of you because they higher total points.
Playoffs
League playoffs will take place in weeks 14, 15 and 16 of the NFL regular season.
Playoff Teams will be seeded as follows. Division winners are seeded #1, #2 and #3 (order determined via tiebreaker method described above.) Wild Card teams are seeded #4 and #5 and #6 (order determined via tiebreaker method described above.)
Seeds #1 and #2 get first round byes. Seed #3 plays Seed #6 and Seed #4 plays Seed #5. In the second round the #1 Seed will play the lowest remaining seed and Seed #2 the highest. Those winners will play for the championship in week 16.
This is also mentioned above, but is worth entering here again
- Interesting twist: To reward the teams that finish with the two highest overall point totals, the points leader will have 5 pts added to his final score for both playoff weeks. The team with the second most pts will have 3 points added to his score for all playoff games.
Miscellaneous
While the rules stated above attempt to cover all possible areas of contention, there could arise a situation that will require commissioner intervention. If a situation of that sort takes place, the commissioner will review the facts and make the fairest ruling possible.
