Well, the improbable has happened! Of course, it's not the first time that something like this has happened in this league, but it seems that here lately it's becoming more of the norm for a team to squeak into the playoffs and end up winning the whole enchilada.
The Highland Rainbow Warriors did just that when they knocked off the high-powered Auburn Warriors by the score of 44-35 to capture Thunder Bowl XV and their first league title in their first year! Granted, the team that won the title didn't resemble the team that was drafted back on draft day (remember the chuckles???  . The Rainbow Warriors recorded a league high 54 waivers as they practically rebuilt their team throughout the season. Nevertheless, the Rainbow Warriors proved that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good! Over the last three weeks of the regular season, the Rainbow Warriors went 1-2 as they scored only 17, 30, and 16 points. But once the playoffs started, the Rainbows' offense found the right combination as they reeled off 31, 52, and 46 points ... and all of those without star running back Priest Holmes.
The Auburn Warriors led the league in offense as they averaged 40.5 points per game. They also set the mark for the highest point total in the modern AEL era with 84 points back in Week 10. But while 35 is a respectable score by any means in this league, it just wasn't enough to capture them their second league title.
As of press time, there had been no statements or comments from either team.
